Re: NFC: Re: Breeder's Program Want List

I would like to start working with some of the brackish gobies of the Gulf
and Atlantic coastlines. I think gobies are fascinating. They are our
overlooked natives.

I agree that behavior is often as fascinating as beauty.

Norm,

My "Wish List" contains pretty much ugly fishes: Sculpins, Stickiebacks,
Mudminnows, Darters in Crystalaria, Ammocrypta, or Etheostoma.

I think they're the more fun to work with, which is why I like them..
they're also a bit more challenging.

All of the fish I'm currently trying to breed are all non-natives. I'm
working with the Congo Reed Fish -- though, I'm still trying to obtain a
female... making it very hard to breed them. :) -- the African Butterfly
Fish, which is an emmense challenge. They will NOT eat any prepared food.
They will only eat foods at the surface whcih are moving, such as crickets,
moths, etc. Furthermore, like a marine flying fish, they also like to take
food above the water, and will jump out of tanks if spooked. They're an
absolute challenge to breed. Lastly, the other one I'm working with is the
very simple to breed Jack Dempsy cichlid. It produces a lot of fry
regularly, which are a good fish food.

I've never seen the facination people have with just the pretty fish.....
Breeding fish should be a challenge and something thats fun.... :)

Josh.
