  Another solution is to build in an overflow box in one end or corner of
the tank with a bulk head fitting in the bottom.You set the water level by
the height of the overflow box. In my 300 gallon with two overflow boxes I
get about 3/8 head when the pump is running ( maybe 600 gph).The bulkheads
are 1" and I think they would easily handle twice that flow, The other thing
I like about overflow boxes is that they do a great job of surface skimming.
