Re: Aquatic Plants Digest V3 #1452

Alfred,

The golden algae eater has a black line running along the lateral line, right? But i've just discovered that mine are purely golden in color and lost the black line. My ottos are sucker mouth. They like to stick on the glass and then suck their way up till their eyes are above water level. They ignore my Tetra-bits whenever it's feeding time.

I must give credit to my ottos even though later on they mite not be ottos, those 4 small guys wipe off the entire brown algae population in my 55 gal. tank in a week or 2. The dark brown algae covered rocks are beautifully cleaned by them.

2 days ago, i bought the last 2 SAE in the LFS. They called it siamese flying fox and the black lateral line protrudes till the very end of the fish caudal fin. CAE looks similar to SAE, doesn't it? The boss in the LFS told me that the false SAE does not have the black line till the end of the caudal fin. I recalled few months back (if i'm not mistaken) that someone in the APD gave a link to a website that describe the different between SAE, CAE and a few similar looking fishes. Unfortunately, the APD search engine did not find that post for me.

Before this, I'm sure mine are ottos but now, i think i need some clarification from the gurus in the APD.

Regards,
Joo
