1/4 cup of yeast!! Geeez!  My special homebrew which lasts me about 3 weeks
is as follows:

3 liter bottle (Ritz Cola, you know, the cheap stuff)
3 cups of sugar
1 teaspoon (!!!!) of yeast
1 tablespoon baking soda.

I fill it up with about 2 liters of warm water (2/3 full).  My private
theory is that the additional air space above the culture provided by the 3
liter bottle helps extend its life (unproven).  The baking soda helps keep
the pH down and helps extend production ALOT!
