Ambulia Question

I recently purchased some Ambulia plants from my lfs, and noticed
something rather odd about one of them.  Instead of being soft with
very fine "leaves", one of them had a much different appearance. 
It had a much thicker stalk, and the leaves were much wider, with 
a white tint on the top side.  Any explanation?  The new growth
is normal--it looks like the other Ambulia.  This isn't really a
problem, just my curiosity! :)
