Peat and pH
How much does the use of peat affect the pH in your water?
I have used a quarter cup of sphagnum peat moss (with no additives) in a
coffee filter to acidify my tap water, which has a pH of 8.5. Just running
the tap water through once lowers the pH to 5.0 and below (my kit doesn't
go any lower). This is a drastic change and I worry about peat actually
sitting in substrate or anywhere else in a tank in contact with water.
