At high pH trace metals are much less soluble in water.  I have some
doubts as to whether this effect becomes important until the pH rises
fairly high -- 8 or 8.5 or so.  I saw this effect fairly strongly in a
garden with soil pH in the 8.3 - 8.4 range.
