I am not sure if you intend to purchase wild fish, but please don't purchase
them. As we know most wild animals are under increasing human pressure to survive
in their natural environment, particularly in the tropics. Though reputable fish
dealers won't deal in endangered species, there is a possibility that an
'unknowing' purchaser may get in a lot of trouble.

There is also the possibility of introducing diseases and parasites that survive
quarantine (quarantine and transport also causes very high mortality rates to
imported fish). These diseases and parasites may harm your fish and may be
accidentally introduced into the environment. I am sure (or at least hope) that
most goldfish importers are very careful with dead imported fish and waste water.

Proponents for using wild fish may site that they need wild fish for their genetic
pool, but there are probably enough domestic stock to ensure genetic variety for
unrare species.

Sincerely, Doug
