By far the best book for identifying North American freshwater fishes
is Peterson's FIELD GUIDE TO FRESHWATER FISHES OF NORTH AMERICA NORTH
OF MEXICO by Lawrence M. Page and Brooks Burr. It's available at most
book stores in the animals/nature section.
