NFC: Aquarium backgrounds

I'm finally getting my tank setup, and I wanted to know about backgrounds for the aquarium. The backgrounds that fit in the tank that look like rocks or tree roots look pretty good, but are they a hassle as far as getting in the way of the filter. I have an Ehiem 2213 canister filter. Any thoughts at all on any backgrounds would help.
