I also use the Salifert test kit, but only the NO3, and the process is
similar to which
you described. Reading against the "white" background is difficult. I am
however able
to get reasonably close. I also use the Dupla NO3 test kits, but they are
more
expensive...., so I use Dupla to regularly monitor the validity of Salifert.

For PO4, I prefer the Seachem test kit. Easy to read and reliable.
