[APD] green blanket algae

Hey everyone,
I put sand in my 55 gallon aquarium and ever since I did that I have this 
type of algae or green stuff that covers everything like a blanket. It will 
even lift off of the sand and grow up the wall. It totally covers 
everything. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do about this? I messed up 
and moved some of the plants to one of my other tanks and now it is in there 
also.
