If you're interested in doing it, go ahead and try; it's not an unreasonable amount of light. Worst thing that might happen is you eventually decide it's more maintenance than you care for, in which case you can make a simple change in the wiring and change to 36 watt bulb. But I'd be sure to keep the CO2 running, and when you first change over to the brighter light, be sure to keep up on your other ferts, too. Common occurence when changing to brighter lights is running short of some nutriernt (CO2 or other) and getting burst of algae. With brighter bulb, everything will be happening faster.

Thanks, that was the info I was looking for.  The ballast is the workhorse 3.

I know there tends to be a lot of variation between tanks, but anybody have comments on running a 55 without pressurized CO2 on a 20 high.
