I don't know if it matters but I've been using the garden hose attached to 
my python to do my tanks for years. I do always let the water run first. I'd 
have to regardless, the water is so hot in the hose that sits outside in the 
sun it would kill my fish instantly. I would guess if you let it run first 
to clear it out that anything else that would leech out would be pretty 
small. There's no way I could do my water changes without it at this point 
and I think the water changes outweigh the risks. My guess is the water in 
the tanks is probably cleaner than what some fish have to try to survive in, 
in the wild.
