Hi Liz

I have had great success with an ultraviolet "filter". Nil side-effects.
Doesn't hurt the fauna or flora. Keep it running until well after the last
spot disappears, to kill off the swimmers. How long is "well after"?
Depends on the temperature of your tank - the ich life cycle is faster at
higher temperature. Since it does no harm, you might as well leave it
running for a week or two after the disease seems to have gone.

Some people say that the UV kills off beneficial organisms. Perhaps it
does. I have never seen any problem. YMMV
