Finally a reason to keep the manufacturers making air pumps for the
aquarium hobby market . . . ;-)
But seriously, if you stop the water flow for, say, 12-14 hours per
day, wouldn't that be long enough to kill off a lot of the bio culture.
If so, then why do it? If not, then why would you need the waterflow
at all? And is 10-12 hours long enough to rebuild the culture *and*
provide a usefully long denitrification period?
Many folks worry about power outages knocking down their bio-culture in
a few hours. Just how long does a bio-culture survive without fresh
water?
