I had a planted goldfish tank for about a year.  The goldfish would
eat the elodea but not as fast as it grew. They sometimes uprooted
small sword plants.  They never really bothered anything else.  Just
remember that g'fish are not tropical, so don't heat the tank, and
select your plants accordingly.
