Heniochus diphreutes

Common name: schooling bannerfish

Photo by Mark Rosenstein / Active Window Productions, Inc.

These fish are very hardy and easy to care for compared to most butterflies. They are social and should be kept in groups. In the wild they are plankton feeders; in captivity they will take most foods.

They are very similar to H. acuminatus. In the wild you can tell them apart because these are social whereas H. acuminatus is usually solitary. Also, H. diphreutes has a more rounded breast, less protruding snout, and its second black band ends at the corner of the anal fin.
