Cyprininds are minnows.  Well, more precisely stated, Minnows are
Cyprinids.  So are barbs, goldfish, carp, rudd, fw. sharks, and so on.  
In a native fish sense, Cyprinids are shiners, minnows, daces, and a few
others.
