Returning fish to the wild has more than the obvious desease potential. It
blurs the gene pool of the existing population. This can lead to loosing
unique trates that may make a strain unusual, for instance, letting loose F.
chrysotus outside it's original population into a population containing a
melanistic form could potentialy lead to an end of the melanism. Though this
is not a documented occurance, it is simply an example of what could happen.
It might be argued that if they are returned to the point of capture, it isn't
a problem, however, it has been my experience that fish populations move and
migrate so one can't be sure their returning a fish to it's original
popultion.        IMHO   : )
