This simply indicates that someone looked at the original description and
(hopefully) the type specimens representing both names and determined them
to be the same species. In that case they both will go by the older name,
the senior synonym, and the younger name will become a junior synonym.
Menidia beryllina was described by Cope in 1867 and M. audens was described
by Hay in 1882.
