NFC: Adopt-A-Tank at Niles West High School

NFC Member Chris Barnett and I have setup a 125 Gallon Adopt-A-Tank at the
Science Department of Niles West High School in Skokie, IL (Chicago
suburb). Chris is the Science teacher at this school. We attempted to show
a typical Northern Illinois Lake system (or are working in that
direction).

Plants and some supplies have been donated by NFC volunteers. I got most
of the fish from a NANFA member. How's that for inter-club cooperation?
All in the name of Education, folks !

Fish list:
1. Northern Pike
2. 3 Warmouth sunfish
3. Some central mudminnows (if they haven't become food yet)
4. Yellow bullhead (2) and a black bullhead
5. Brindled madtom (1).

Plants (almost all native):

Canadian/American Anacharis, Cabomba carolina, "Creeping Charlie"* (Some
form of Bacopa.), Eleocharis, Hornwort, Bacopa moniera, Chain of Stars,
Val. americana, Quill Grass, Subulata, Lizard Tail, Banana Plant, Foxtail,
Bacopa carolina, Didiplis, Stargrass, Mayaca, Hydrocotyl, Lilaepsis Grass,
"Mermaid Plant," Fontinallis, Najas Grass, Hydrilla, Riccia, Ludwigias,
Radicans Swords*, Water Sprite and Java Moss.

(All may not have thrived).

We are working on settling this tank in with the current fish load and
maybe add more fish and plants next spring. We may even take a group of
students out to the local waterway (Skokie Lagoons off the Chicago River)
to identify fish and collect for the tank.

Will keep you updated.
