What you have there is Cypris also known as "Hardshell Daphnia" or "seed
shrimp". Same size as Daphnia, have a similar life cycle and their
color can change with their diet. They strongly resemble minature
clams, complete with a pair of shells that swing on hinges. Appendiges
are enclosed within the shells with just the tips showing. Excellent
food for all fishes, but some species are said to have harder shells
than others, and can be difficult for fishes without strong jaws. Your
fish will enjoy the treat.
