Houseflies survive the winter in northern areas by "hibernating".  They crawl
ito cracks in structures like houses and just let their body temp sink with
the weather.  When it warms up, they revive and go on with life.

Maybe you could try putting a few of them into the freezer until the stuff
arrives.
