One of the suits purpose is to stop people from spreading vicious lies and
is directed at making them accountable for saying things that are not true.

The Internet chat rooms should not become a free-for-all for libelous
comments.

Personally, I wouldn't tolerate libelous comments.  However, I think it is
your reaction that pissed people off.  If comments were not true, you
should not have been worried.  A simple clarification would have settled
the whole thing.  People would have respected you.  But now...
