It, too was out of control. Note where the "Paste as Quote" function put the

James can make your postings more readable by setting word wrap to "on" in
his reader, which will fold all lines at one window width. [Often still too
long.]

Use a different editor, and then just copy and paste the formatted message.
Nothing says you must use a crappy editor to write your e-mails. :-)
