Peter,

Does your system use a one way valve to eliminate the backflow of water?
Depending on the pressure needed to open these things, (I think mine is
rated at 1 psi) it's probably the culprit.

BTW, my system does the same thing, only not as severe.  I get a burst of
2-3 bubbles every 2-3 seconds.
