Well, I've observed one of my ghost shrimp eating a couple of ramshorn 
snails. It would pick up the snail in its claws and pick at it until every 
single bit of snail was gone. I haven't noticed them touch any sort of algae, 
however. My snail population has been kept in check with ghost shrimp and a 
betta who would try to suck out the snail from its shell. YMMV.
