Re. snail infestation

The planted tank will need fish, because they add needed amonia from their
waste to help your tank cycle well. That would maybe explaine the plants
that are turning brown....snails are good to help keep the algea down and
most people will put a hardy algea eater in right away to keep on top of the
algea from the start. If you don't like snails there are a couple of fish
that will eat snails. Maybe you can buy a couple and use them awhile 30-60
days to help cycle your tank. Then when you are ready to put your dream
fish in, just take the snail eating fish back to you LFS and exchange them.
Just a suggestion. Rember one thing, snails lay eggs almost right away.
These eggs lay dormant for a while and then pop up again.
