filter floss and Iron

Has anyone noticed polyester filter floss absorbing/adsorbing iron. I 
change the media in my eheim yesterday and I noticed all the floss 
was a rusty brown. Also before changing it I tested the iron (new 
test kit syndrome :) ) and the Iron was about 0.3ppm later I tested 
it again (NTKS) and it was immeasurable. Now it could either be the 
floss, which was the only thing I changed in the filter or the plants 
sucked it up. What are your thoughts.
