I tried this with water cannas last year and had no luck.  (I understand
the seed coating is similar).  I even tried doing the bee thing with my
water cannas, collected the bean sized seeds, nicked the outer coating,
threw them in my Discus tank (pH around 6.5-7.0, temp 84-86), and watched
all winter long to no avail.  Is there a trick to pollinating?  Do you
have to have multiple plants, flowers??
