Recently my 55g outdoor tank was overwhelmed by algae.
The tank is densely planted and all the leaves looked dark and
ugly. Tried a few old tricks for a month, including darkening the
tank.. with no luck..

Finally bit the bullet and poured in an algae stop chemical
labelled as "2-cloro-4.5 bis (ethylamino) - 1, 3, 5-triazine"
as per instruction. I added a few small algae eaters, a few
mollies.

A week later the tank was sparkling clean.. no fish died..
and now a few more weeks later, no plants seem affected..
