A friend of mine told me that aquarium plants prefer amonnia in alkaline water and nitrite/nitrates in acid water. He found that in one russian aquarium book. Any comments? The only I can think of is that as the pH level rises ammonium ions (NH4) break down to ammonia (NH3 + H20) and plants prefer NH3 (but why?). Michael
