For what it's worth, Derek, I have had leeches in my koi pond for a
while now. They also came in on plants, but I am pretty sure that
mine were housed in the soil of a potted plant, not just hanging onto
the leaves.
I worried about them for a while, but even after spending hours
standing in the pond while cleaning it, I have never had one attach to
me. Mostly, I find them in the filter, where I assume they are eating
the "goodies" that collect there.
I don't know if yours are the same type as mine, but I no longer worry
about them attacking me.
