If the nutritional needs of the plants are being met, so are the needs of
algae. Algae is not a courteous species that will sit back and let the
plants have their fill before dining. If nutrients are there, algae will
use it. 

Before you go on a fruitless quest to get just the "right" nutritional
balance, I would suggest you look into something that will control the
algae naturally. SAEs are highly recommended.
