I posted a response to this question last week, with a description of a
fairly simple and inexpensive modification to the standard DIY CO2 setup
in which a simple electronic controller pulsed an air pump to deliver
CO2 from a Mylar balloon reservoir.  I've put a drawing and schematic
diagram for the setup at:
