So what happens to the electrode carbon as it slowly disappears?  You are
assuming that the electrode is pure carbon.  Maybe they found a carbon compund
that will break down and form CO2 and "H?".  Let's see what those experienced
with it have to say about pearling, pH. and possibly even CO2 level tests.
