Currently using Eheim canister filter for my planted tank. How long can
bacteria survive in the filter media should there be a power failure?

Are fresh and marine (with respect those that colonise filter media)
bacteria identical?

Nebody have successful experience with removing algae by following the
Dennerle way? ie 3 hours light, 4 hours mid-daylight, 4 hours light and
rest.
