How about dosing just potassium chloride (KCl)? Potassium sulfate works too.
The extra chloride or sulfate ions are harmless.

I've got a little bag at home of "muriate of potash" I got from the garden
store. I sprinkle an appropriate dose of it into a cup of water from the
tank itself, stir to dissolve it, then add it back to the tank. I use it
whenever I think I see potassium deficiency symptoms.

The nice thing is that there's a large room for dosing error with KCl as
opposed to other nutrient mixes. Does anyone know what can happen with an
overdose of KCl? Is salinity the only problem?
