The learning curve
Just a quick update on a "plant newbie " learning curve. Thanks to the
info found in the list I did the following with two established planted
tanks :
-
Left lighting alone. That's something I'd done properly from the
start.
-
Pulled out the gravel and installed Hartz kitty litter / osmocote substrate.
-
Put back the gravel and re-planted the tank.
-
Fish were fine and plants started to do much better - actually growing!
-
Ph was too high - 8.0+ so I put peat in the magnum canisters. That
helped a little.
-
Turned-0ff the Biowheels on the 75 and the 30 (had 2 on the 30 and 4 on
the 75). Now only running Magnums to remove particulate and create
mild current.
-
Ph is now 6.8 - 7.0 plants are REALLY doing well as are the fish.
Stopped stealing nutrients from the plants via the Bio-wheels.
Thanks for the help puzzling through the variables.
