Standard 48" tubes should fit just fine. The tube itself is actually 47
1/4 inches and the pins add 1/4 inch (or so) on each end. A 55 (or at
least my 55) is 48 1/4 inches long. My DIY hood (design available on the
Krib) is 48 3/4 inches long outside and about 48 1/4 inside. The
commercial striplight I took off my tank is 48 1/2 inches long outside and
48 1/4 inches inside. Exactly how long yours will need to be depends
partly on your end connectors.
