Hmm I never had problems with 2 48" tubes on a 55 gallon tank.  My old combo
for years was a Plant Bulb and a Dyylight.  Now I'm using a combo of a Chroma
50
and a Plant Light.  If anything I'd say the light is on the edge of too much.
And
80/55 is less then 1.5 Wattas per gallon.
