RE: Flagfish Are The Best

I've been keeping American-Flags in community tanks for quite some time,
and have never experienced any type of aggressive behavior (except
during spawning and then it was only bluff and bluster). I do, however,
keep them in a ratio of 1 male to 2 females, and I also have some type
of dither fish to keep everyone's attention. After corresponding with a
list member who was having a problem with Flags attacking his Gouramis,
I tried moving all the Flags to another tank except for the dominant
male. Sure enough, within hours he was chasing everyone in the tank.
Now, these are the same fish that have been housed together for about a
year, with absolutely no problem. After returning the other Flags, he
reverted back to his old docile self. BTW, there are 6 in a 29g.

Bottom line from my experience, keep them in the 1 male to 2 female
ratio, and add 5 or 6 fast movers (I use Zebra Danios).

Hope this helps.
