bleaching driftwood

Thayer,

I don't think you should put that driftwood back into your tank at least
not right away. I'm not sure if boiling it will kill the algae but the
wood is very porous and I'd be very concerned about bleaching it. It
might be simpler and safer to just buy a clean piece from the aquarium
store. Maybe someone else has suggestions for treating the wood. Porous
wood is tricky... If you bleached it, you could soak it in a large
barrel for a month or two maybe... Hardwoods like Mopani would have a
much denser grain and probably won't soak up as much bleach. Maybe Paul
Krombholz has some advice on treating driftwood.
