Stem Rot: D. diandra

I am having difficulty with D. diandra. The stem rots at the gravel line.
OTOH, the plant grows well with strong top growth. They send out roots from
nodes above the gravel line but these do not sufficiently anchor the plant
in the substrate.

Tank specs: 110g; 220w of VHO light, RO water reconstituted to gH=3 using
Kent's RO Right; kH=2; NO3 ~10ppm; PO4<0.2ppm; pH~6.8; CO2 added @ 10-15
ppm; substrate- sandblast gravel with laterite added; and fertilize with
PMDD.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA,
