Nichole,

As you guessed, Britta Filters are just carbon and floss.  Just break one
apart and look for yourself.  Notice that if you read the little
instruction pamphlet that comes with it, it only says that it removes
"chlorine taste."  I wouldn't bother with pre-treating the water using a
Britta... stick to a normal de-chlorinator product that actually
binds/removes chlorine.
