David, You can rest assured that Duckweed has not problem at all tolerating direct sunlight. Most likely it is a nutrient issue. Stuff grows wild all over Florida in full direct summer sunlight. But it does like its nutrients under these conditions. Try tossing some terrestrial fertilizer, nice and high in nitrogen and phosphate and you should be fine. Doug
