Cindy What do you mean when you say mineral content? Does the water color change? Are you actually measuring something that is changing? e.g. PO4 CO3 HCO3. A great many people do not use carbon in their filters myself included and have no problems. You can substitute gravel for carbon. BTW is this tank cycled? The NH3 seems high.
