Public aquariums
Anyone planning a visit to the Washington DC area should not miss
the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of Natural History. Although
not an aquarium in the same sense as some of the other places that
have been described, the museum has a marvelous display showing
evolution in the sea. It also houses 2 reef tanks containing a variety
of fish, live coral, and other invertebrates, and a large biotope
aquarium simulating the rocky coast of Maine with associated fish,
mollusks, arthropods, and vegetation. You can also view a couple
of giant squid (embalmed, of course!).
