RE: DIY CO2 in a ten gallon

A "regular" two liter bottle DIY CO2 set up should be fine for a
ten gallon tank. This is provided that the fish population is not very
heavy. An alternative would be to stock the tank with fishes capable of
taking atmospheric air that are not bothered by a lower pH (in case it
should drop). I would suggest some small labyrinth fishes (Betta spp.,
Colisa spp. etc.) or Corydoras. Another possibility would be to set the
filter on a timer opposite the lights. This way the tank receives aerating
water movement at night when both the fish and plants need O2.
